Tuition Assistance Program
The Tidewater Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) is offering financial assistance to enlisted military members and federal service employees to help with the cost of textbooks and any tuition exceeding the $4,500 cap for Government tuition assistance. The applicant must:
- Be an active duty enlisted person or a federal service employee holding a grade between GS-1 through GS-9 and assigned to the Tidewater area.
- Be pursuing a declared undergraduate/graduate degree in the field of: communications; electronics; data processing; computer science; electronic warfare; intelligence or avionics disciplines another field directly related to communications or computer systems.
- or -
- Be attempting to improve skill level or job knowledge within a C4I: (USAF) Specialty Code; (Army) Military Occupational Specialty; (Navy) Enlisted Classification Code or Civilian Job Series.
Criteria and factors for selection:
- The selection board will provide assistance based on funds availability and the priorities listed below. All qualified applicants of each group will receive assistance before going to the next group/category:
- E-6/GS-6 and below pursuing Associates Degree
- E-6/GS-6 and below pursuing Bachelor's Degree
- E-7/GS-7 through E-9/GS-9 and below pursuing Associate's or Bachelor's Degree
- E-9/GS-9 and below attending certification course
- E-9/GS-9 and below pursuing Master's Degree
- E-9/GS-9 and below pursuing Doctorate's Degree
Example: All E-6s/GS-6s and below going for an associates degree would be taken care of before the E-6/GS-6 and below pursuing Bachelor's degree group, and so on.
- Member must receive a grade of C or higher.
- Involvement with the Tidewater Chapter is a factor (e.g., assists with the annual symposium, participates in annual golf tournament activities and monthly luncheons, encourages membership, etc.).
- Members may apply for textbook or tuition assistance after completion of classes for each term. The maximum amount per member will not exceed $400.00 per year.
- TA does not apply if you've received an AFCEA scholarship within the previous year that exceeds the amount of your TA request.
- This program provides eligible applicants funds to supplement the government (education services) TA program. You MUST include a copy of your approved government TA form with your application. Individuals are required to submit to AFCEA information verifying course completion and costs (textbooks and/or tuition).
